With its main entrance off an inviting little street in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage area of the Ribeira, this building and its surroundings block of houses have stood overlooking the river Douro for over seven centuries. In 2006 the building underwent a complete renovation of both façade and interior, providing luxurious comfort and functionality while preserving traditional architectural style and appeal. The very granite rocks that remain the shell of this house date back to the mid thirteen hundreds. They have witnesses the rise of medieval Oporto, the birth of the Port trade on the other side of the river, the construction of the 19th century D Luis bridge and the new 2010 funicular from which passengers look back at the house along the opposite riverbank. The apartment is set in one of the most evocative locations in Portugal. Equipped with all the modern amenities it provides accommodation of comfort and convenience, and serves as an ideal base from which to explore the historic city and its architectural and gastronomic delights, as well as the wine lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia and the vineyards of the Douro.
